Peru conquers fourth place as a global exporter of peas

Peas are a common vegetable in many cuisines around the world and are usually produced locally for domestic consumption. However, Peru has stood out as the fourth largest global supplier. From January to September 2023, the country exported 7,715 tons worth $27 million. “Despite a slight 9% decline in shipment volume, the value of exports remained virtually constant.” According to FresFruit, the reason why the value could be sustained is due to the compensation that existed in the price of almost 10%, trading on average at $3.46 per kilogram. Peruvian shipments barely reached eight different destinations, far below other Peruvian vegetables such as artichoke or asparagus.
