The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) has developed twenty varieties of Andean grains with high genetic quality that are being sold in various commercial markets. These varieties, including quinoa, kiwicha, kañiwa, and tarwi, have been produced through agromorphological studies and research based on the genetic diversity of germplasm banks. The high genetic value of these grains lies in their resistance to diseases, which reduces the use of agrochemicals and fertilizers, increases yield, and improves crop quality. These grains are also gluten-free and rich in proteins and micronutrients, making them favorable for human nutrition and health.
