In the first quarter of 2024, Peru experienced a notable increase in rice imports, reaching over 22.5 million kilos valued at nearly US$18.7 million, marking a significant rise from the previous year. Uruguay dominated the supply chain, contributing 64% of the total imports, with Brazil, Thailand, and other countries also playing key roles. Major importers within Peru included Costeño Alimentos SAC, Comercial Isabelita, Alejandrina Perú SAC, and Grupo Fraile Rice SAC. This surge underscores the evolving dynamics of Peru's rice import market and the pivotal contributions of Uruguay and Brazil.
