In 2023, Peru ranked tenth as a global exporter of capsicum, with potential to grow and improve its market participation, particularly in quality. The country exports capsicum in various forms to the United States, Mexico, and other countries. However, the sector faces challenges such as prohibited pesticides, seed shortage, water contamination, weather phenomena, and price speculation, which have reduced production by 35% in key areas. To improve its global position, Peru needs to address these challenges through public-private collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and market diversification. The country also needs to improve logistics infrastructure and qualify more exporting companies and labor to utilize the benefits of the Chancay megaport.
