Ecuadorian pineapples have entered the Peruvian market, thanks to collaborative efforts by the phytosanitary services of both nations. This access is anticipated to enhance Ecuador's agricultural sector, especially in regions like Santo Domingo, Los Ríos, and Guayas, which are ideal for pineapple farming. Ecuador boasts 6,374 hectares of pineapple plantations, yielding 507,987 tons annually, and exports to 39 countries, with the Netherlands, Chile, and the United States as top buyers. In 2023, pineapple exports from Ecuador generated nearly $64 million and created approximately 2,500 direct jobs, positively impacting related sectors such as transportation, logistics, and trade.
