On November 8, the Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MGAP) published Resolution 0938/022, officially permitting the importation of Peruvian peppers and chilies, regardless of the customs import regime. This decision marks the legal entry of Peruvian peppers into Uruguay, supporting the expansion of Uruguyan gastronomy. Peru, known for its diverse pepper varieties, cultivates over 350 types across 24 regions, supported by around 11,000 agricultural producers, many of which engage in family agriculture and are vital to maintaining the rich biodiversity and tradition of Peruvian cuisine.
