Ecuador has achieved a significant milestone in its fruit export business by secururing an agreement with Peru to allow the import of Ecuadorian pineapples. With a planted area of 6,374 hectares and an annual production of 507,987 tons, Ecuador has emerged as a major producer of high-quality pineapples. In 2023, Ecuador's pineapple exports reached a value of US$ 63.8 million. The Netherlands is the primary importer of Ecuador's pineapple shipments, accounting for 37.1% of the total in 2024, followed by the United States and Chile. The agreement marks a formal start to Ecuador's pineapple exports to Peru.
