According to Peru's "Peru News" on the 21st, based on data from the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Peru currently has a pig population of 3.4 million head, with an annual pork production of 200,450 tons, while per capita annual pork consumption is only 11 kilograms.
Against this backdrop, the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation is committed to strengthening the importance of the national pig farming industry, supporting small-scale farmers, and promoting Peruvian specialty cuisine represented by fried pork (chicharrón).
It is reported that pork, as the core ingredient in many representative Peruvian dishes, has given rise to various traditional foods such as fried pork with corn kernels (chicharrón con mote), fried pork burger (pan con chicharrón), carapulcra (a stew made with dried potatoes, pork, peanuts, and other ingredients), and roasted suckling pig (lechón horneado).
