Peru strengthens its cocoa leadership with new international agreement for sustainability

With the aim of promoting the sustainable production of cocoa and chocolate, the Association of Exporters (ADEX) and other guilds signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa (Swissco), which is made up of the government of Switzerland and various private sector, academic, and civil society actors. Peru is the second-largest global producer of organic cocoa and the fourth-largest supplier of cocoa to Switzerland. In 2024 alone, its shipments to this European market reached 5,900 tons, five times more than five years ago. The MoU was signed at the headquarters of the Swiss Embassy in Peru by the executive director of Swissco, Christian Robin, and the presidents of ADEX, César Tello Ramírez; of the Peruvian Association of Cocoa Producers (AppCacao), Anaximandro Rojas Gil; of the Peruvian Association for the Promotion of Peruvian Chocolate (Aprochoc), Michele Leoni; and of the Peruvian Coffee and Cocoa Chamber (CPCC), Luis Navarro.
