Peru strengthens its cocoa leadership with new international agreement for sustainability

With the aim of promoting the sustainable production of cocoa and chocolate, the Association of Exporters (ADEX) and other guilds signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa (Swissco), which is made up of the government of Switzerland and various private sector, academic, and civil society actors. Peru is the second-largest global producer of organic cocoa and the fourth-largest supplier of cocoa to Switzerland. In 2024 alone, its shipments to this European market reached 5,900 tons, five times more than five years ago.
