Peru's asparagus exports in 2024 have seen a decline due to climatic conditions, with a drop of 10% in volume and 7% in value, primarily affecting the early months of the year. Despite this, Peru remains the world's leading asparagus exporter, with the United States as its primary market. However, Mexico is challenging this position due to its logistical advantages. Europe also poses a challenge for Peruvian asparagus with its short production season and high consumption in specific markets, leading to competition from Spain that ends in the same season. Once the Spanish season concludes, however, Spain turns to Peruvian asparagus to meet its domestic demand, highlighting the complementary nature of the two countries' production schedules.
