Peru's asparagus exports in 2022 saw a decline in both volume and value due to increased production in Europe, growth in Mexican supply, and stricter US phytosanitary requirements. The country exported 172,936 tons of asparagus, valued at $516 million, marking a 4% drop in volume and 7% in value from the previous year. The average price per kilogram also decreased by about 3%. The United States, Spain, and the Netherlands were the primary destinations for Peruvian asparagus, with the United States seeing the largest decline in imports. The lifting of the fumigation requirement and strategies such as product diversification and quality improvement are expected to help the industry in 2023.
