In the first quarter of 2023, despite facing adverse weather conditions, Peru's agricultural sector experienced growth, particularly in blueberry production which surged by 37.5 percent compared to the previous year, totaling over $1.36 billion in sales in 2022. The United States continues to be the primary market for Peruvian blueberries, receiving over 53 percent of the total exports. This growth is attributed to the expansion of blueberry cultivation areas in regions like Lambayeque, Ica, and La Libertad, as well as the introduction of new blueberry varieties, increasing the country's production diversity. Despite this growth, there is still potential for expansion in international markets, with Peru currently exporting to only 32 markets.
