Peru has been celebrating its annual Peruvian Cocoa and Chocolate Day since 2012, aiming to strengthen the cocoa production chain and highlight the benefits of the bean. With over 120,000 producers across 16 regions, Peru is a major center of cocoa origin. The country's cocoa production reached 166,735 tons in 2023, with plans to boost per capita chocolate consumption from 500 grams to 1 kilo by 2025. In 2023, Peruvian cocoa exports increased by 38.4% to $219 million, sent to 44 destinations, and Peru ranks as the third world exporter of organic cocoa.
