Agroforestry consultant Elva Marina Gáslac Gáloc is working to conserve the melipona bee, a stingless bee species vulnerable to climate change, in Peru. She has created habitats to foster their breeding and recovery, highlighting the importance of biodiversity and food security. The bee route initiative is designed to educate the public about these bees and their significant role in ecological balance and the production of nutritious honey, which is utilized for its therapeutic properties and in cosmetics. Melipona bees are essential for the pollination of a variety of crops, including essential food sources like tomatoes and watermelons, and their pollen has a higher protein content compared to other bees.
