Peruvian ginger (kion), a superfood, has made its first entry into Central America, with two containers exported to Guatemala by the Peruvian company S&M Foods. This marks a milestone in the conquest of the Central American market for Peruvian products, following trade missions to the region since 2018. S&M Foods, recently recognized as the 'energy non-mining export company of 2021', also exports other Peruvian products to Central America. In 2021, fresh ginger exports reached $84.8 million, with the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, and Germany being the main importers.
