In September 2024, Peru experienced a significant decrease in ginger exports, with a drop of 39% in volume and 36% in value compared to the same month in 2023. The overall export volume for the year fell by 37%, resulting in a value of $77.6 million, despite a 5% increase in the average international price of Peruvian ginger to $2.09 per kilogram. The United States was the largest importer, followed by the Netherlands and Spain. The reduction in exports is attributed to lower production due to adverse weather conditions and the Ralstonia bacteria. Among the 59 Peruvian exporters, La Campiña Perú S.A.C., JCH Exportaciones S.A.C., and Agronegocios La Grama S.A.C. stood out, and the majority of the cargo was shipped through DP World, APM Terminals, and Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos – Paita.
