Peruvian pea exports registered an increase in May 2024

In May 2024, Peru exported 953 tons of peas worth $3.6 million, which represented an increase of 124.5% in volume and 139.2% in value compared to the same month of the previous year. The average price of Peruvian peas in the international market was $3.76 per kilogram, an increase of 6.5%, according to data from FreshFruit. In this period, the most demanded Peruvian pea varieties in the international market were the Chinese pea, with a 52.6% share; and sweet peas, with 43.3%. Exports reached nine destinations, three more than in May 2023. The main markets were the United States (47.2% share), the United Kingdom (36.0%) and the Netherlands (14.4%). To the United States, shipments totaled 407 tons for $1.69 million, at an average price of $4.16 per kilogram. Regarding the British market, it acquired 370 tons for $1.29 million, at an average cost of $3.48 per kilogram.
