The head of Agromercado, Luis Llanos, explains that Peru is experiencing an important stage to consolidate new productive chains oriented towards the market, with an emphasis on added value and the articulation between small producers and the agri-industry. One of the pillars of this advancement is the Agricultural Suppliers Development Program (PDP), which directly connects the demand of the private sector with the supply of producers. This model starts by understanding what exporting companies need—from sizes to GlobalG.A.P. or organic certifications—and then prepares cooperatives and associations to meet those standards. "It is a demand-based approach: first we understand what the market requires, and then we articulate the producers to respond with quality and traceability," Llanos points out.
