Peruvian pitahaya exports have seen a significant surge, with a 570.6% increase in value and a 343.5% increase in volume from January to August of the same year compared to the previous year, reaching $1 million 332 thousand and 412 tons respectively. The European Union, particularly the Netherlands and Spain, are the primary recipients of these exports. This growth highlights the rising global demand for the nutrient-dense fruit, benefiting small producers in Peru, especially in Amazonas and San Martín, and offering promising opportunities for the production chain. With the global market for pitahaya expected to expand to $18 billion by 2029, there is optimism for the future of Peru's pitahaya exports, contributing to employment and enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies in the country.
