In 2023, Philippine pineapple exports increased by 5%, with a significant portion attributed to increased exports to China, reflecting the global trade trend. The Philippines, the world's second largest pineapple supplier, exported 611,873 tons of pineapples, up from 582,537 tons the previous year. The main variety grown in the Philippines, MD2, is popular in the market for its long shelf life, year-round maturity, and cost-effectiveness, and exports to China increased by 22% in the first seven months of 2023, making China the main consumer of Philippine pineapples, accounting for 46% of total exports.
