In a proactive move to safeguard asparagus crops from the fall armyworm, a significant agricultural pest, the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) in Mexico has joined forces with national asparagus producers. This collaboration aims to enhance health measures against pests, with the support of the National Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality Service (Senasica). A virtual meeting involving producers, importers, exporters, and Mexican embassy representatives across several European countries was convened by Javier Calderón Elizalde of Senasica to discuss preventive strategies. Mexico's commitment to international phytosanitary standards is further underscored by its adoption of the Electronic Phytosanitary Certificate (ePhyto) for dealings with the European Union, showcasing its dedication to science-based pest control and international cooperation.
