The pig sector in Paraguay has experienced significant growth over the past decade, with a 262% increase in production, rising from 17,600 tons in 2010 to 63,761 tons in 2020, and a tripling of domestic consumption from 3 kilograms to 9 kilograms per capita. Foreign trade has also seen a substantial increase, multiplying by 280 times, with exports going from 26.2 tons in 2010 to 5,462 tons in 2020. There is still potential for growth, as domestic consumption remains below the regional and world averages. The sector is continually innovating and there is potential to increase consumption of pork products, especially considering Paraguay's high consumption of sausages.
