Argentina: Pilot test to evaluate the growth of Siberian salmon

The reservoirs to store the water that producers receive during the irrigation shift in the Villarino and Patagones districts –Buenos Aires– can be an opportunity to add a new productive activity in the region. For this, a team of specialists from INTA Hilario Ascasubi is advancing with the study of the adaptability of Siberian salmon to local agroecological conditions. Preliminary results confirmed that the survival percentage was 90 %, with very good weight gains, which demonstrates the progressive and optimal growth of this species under local conditions and based on local forages. During the experience, a periodic record of temperature, salinity of the water and dissolved oxygen was kept.
