Gyeongnam Province has proposed to the Korea Forest Service measures to prevent the spread of pinewood nematode disease, urging the government to revise law and declare affected areas as special disaster zones. The province also seeks additional funding for control project costs and tree species conversion. The disease, spread by longicorn beetles, has led to the destruction of 361,776 trees in the province and has resulted in the prohibition of pine tree exports from 18 cities and counties. Despite control measures such as drone use and tree felling, the scale of the damage is escalating annually.
