Brazil: Pioneer northern strawberries with geographical indication boost national market

Strawberries grown in Japira, Pinhalão, Tomazina and Jaboti, the latter recognized as the strawberry capital of Paraná, are gaining national visibility thanks to their Geographical Indication (GI) certification. This distinction has attracted buyers from various parts of the country, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and Paraná, who seek the quality and authenticity of local products. The Norte Velho Association (ANV), responsible for certified production, has the capacity to produce around 450 tons of strawberries annually, serving mainly the regional market and expanding to cities in the regions of Londrina and Maringá.
