Iran's agricultural exports, including tomato, dates, watermelon, and pistachios, have seen significant revenue and tonnage, with watermelon being the highest in tonnage. However, pistachio exports have been on a decline since 2007-08, with factors such as drought, frost, groundwater depletion, and water salinity posing threats to the pistachio industry. Kerman, the main pistachio-producing province, is facing a severe water crisis, driving farmers to dig wells and move their orchards due to the lack of water. Over-extraction of groundwater has led to the depletion of resources and water quality issues. Annual pistachio tree deaths in Kerman's orchards range from 12,000 to 15,000 hectares due to water scarcity.
