The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, defended this Friday that farming practices associated with eco-regimes and agroecology "are increasing carbon fixation in agricultural soils," which in turn "contributes to the mitigation of climate change." Planas made these statements at the opening of a PAC Network day, for World Soil Day, in which the first results of a monitoring study of soil organic carbon (SOC) in plots where both farming practices have been applied were presented. "The results are very positive," said the minister, who explained that this project, promoted by his department, is "the largest carried out to date in Spain and a pioneer in Europe," the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) pointed out in a statement. He detailed that the study analyzes 16,000 plots distributed throughout the country, with the collection of 128,000 samples every two years.
