The VALPRO Path project, backed by Horizon Europe and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funds, is working on making plant-based meat production more sustainable. The project aims to shorten supply chains, process plant-based raw materials locally, and create high-value ingredients from diverse protein crops. A commercial partner in Italy is developing a plant-based burger using local lentils and chickpeas. The project also seeks to boost the profitability of protein crops at the farm level through specific on-farm technologies.
