(Pohang=Yonhap News) Reporter Son Dae-seong = Strawberries produced in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, were exported to Taiwan for the first time. On the 11th, a loading ceremony was held at the Pohang Agricultural Cooperative's strawberry joint export station in Heunghae-eup, Buk-gu, to export 550 kg (17 million won) of strawberries. These strawberries will be exported to Taiwan and sold to consumers. The city plans to export 20 tons of strawberries to Taiwan and other foreign countries by the first half of next year. Currently, 50 farms in Pohang are cultivating strawberries on 18.8 hectares of land, producing 1,820 tons annually and generating approximately 10 billion won in income. The city and the Pohang Agricultural Cooperative also completed the construction of a joint strawberry export station that can sort, pack, and store strawberries on the same day. An official from the city said, "The completion of the joint export station and the first export to Taiwan means that Pohang strawberries have been recognized as competitive not only domestically but also in the foreign market."
