Poland has become the main producer of pumpkins in the European Union

the total harvest in the EU. This is followed by France (235 thousand tons, 20%), Spain (172 thousand tons, 15%), Germany (114 thousand tons, 10%) and Portugal (92 thousand tons, 8%). Together, the top five provided 86% of European production. According to Eurostat, from 2014 to 2024, the area under pumpkins in Poland increased from 1.1 thousand hectares to 9.3 thousand hectares, and the harvest increased almost eightfold – from 48 thousand tons to over 380 thousand tons. Exports remain insignificant – only 3-4 thousand tons per year (about 1% of production), mostly to Italy, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Two types of crops prevail in the country – common pumpkin (in particular, macaroni) and giant pumpkin (mainly Hokkaido and Muscat varieties). The peak of the season is currently underway: pumpkins are actively sold in markets, shops and supermarkets.
