Vietnam has seen a significant decline in durian exports to its major markets, with China accounting for over 90% of the total exports. The exports to China have dropped by nearly 70% month-on-month and about 42% year-on-year. Other markets including Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, and South Korea have also experienced a decrease in imports. The main cause of this decline is attributed to the impact of climate change and extreme weather conditions on durian production in Vietnam. The quality of the durians produced is not meeting export standards due to long-term precipitation and strong sunlight. Additionally, the off-season production in the southwest region is only 30%-50% of the normal yield due to improper farming techniques and heat shock.
