Poor harvests in Iran and Syria will force them to import more wheat in the new season.

One of the largest buyers of Russian wheat—Iran and Syria—in the 2025/26 MY will sharply reduce production and increase imports. Due to drought and low government procurement prices, Iran is expected to reduce domestic production and significantly increase wheat imports from the beginning of the calendar year to the end of March. The head of the National Syndicate of Wheat Farmers of Iran, Ataullah Hashemi, said on Sunday that domestic wheat production in Iran from April to August decreased compared to last year by 5 million tons or 31% to almost 11 million tons, and government procurement of local wheat—by 4.4 million tons or 36% to 7.6 million tons.
