Poor sandeel season for Norwegian fleet. The Norwegian fishing season for sandeel is over for this year with one boat having a catch of 234 tonnes last week, reports pelagic fishing group Norges Sildesalgslag. About 16,000 tonnes of the quota of 60,000 tonnes was taken, making it a poor season for sandeel catches, and it’s been many years since there has been such a small total catch. In addition to the Norwegian catches, around 7,500 tonnes have come from four foreign vessels. Meanwhile, the coastal fleet in the north has had a good start to the mackerel season. Mackerel has been fished from the north of Andenes to the west of Bodø. Mackerel in the north has averaged 500 grams and prices have been good. Most fishing has been done inside Værøy.
