In Ukraine, the livestock sector has shown positive growth with a 3% increase in pigs and a 2.2% increase in poultry across all farm categories, as reported by Olena Dadus from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. This growth is mainly attributed to agricultural enterprises, which are close to meeting the domestic meat demand. Despite a decrease in beef consumption, pork and poultry demand is expected to rise due to their affordability. Poultry meat production has seen a 5.8% increase, aiding in meeting export demands, while pork and beef production have slightly declined. Additionally, Ukraine has witnessed a significant surge in live pig imports, reaching a record 564 tons in 2023, which is 2.7 times the amount imported the previous year. However, the pork production sector faces challenges such as environmental requirements, export restrictions, and diseases like African swine fever, which are expected to impact production in the European Union.
