The Swine Raisers Association of Thailand (SRAT) has expressed concern over the potential closure of small pig farms due to an oversupply of pork, a problem exacerbated by major farms expanding production without considering demand. SRAT president Sitthiphan Thankiatphinyo has called for a balance between supply and demand to prevent extreme price fluctuations and the collapse of the industry. He suggests large farms should collaborate with smaller ones to ensure sustainability. Currently, Thailand produces approximately 20 million pigs per year, mostly by 10 major farms that continue to increase production, while demand remains stable. Additionally, the SRAT commends the Thai government's initiatives to curb the illegal use of substances in pig feed, led by the Department of Livestock Development, to ensure food safety.
