The Peruvian Association of Pig Farmers (Asoporci) expects a 30% increase in pork sales for the 2022 holiday season, up from a 50% increase seen in pre-pandemic times. This growth comes after a recovery in demand and despite rising production costs. Asoporci's general manager, Ana María Trelles, mentioned the sector's reliance on promotions and the reactivation of the Horeca sector. She also highlighted the trend towards producing pigs with more meat, which requires more resources and time. Despite these challenges, Trelles noted that Peru's per capita pork consumption has increased to 9.2 kilos from 8.7 kilos last year, attributed to marketing campaigns like 'eat pork, eat healthy.'
