A recent Porkwatch survey and retail sales data revealed that UK retailers increased the display of British pork products during the early months of the COVID-19 lockdown, with a notable rise in British pork, bacon, sausages, and ham. The largest retailers reported a 14% increase in pig meat sales volume and a 22% increase in value during the 12 weeks ending May 7. The survey praised retailers like Aldi, Budgens, Co-op, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s for their high display of British pork products, yet criticized Asda, Tesco, and Iceland for their lower display rates. This data showcases the UK pork sector's resilience and adaptability in meeting increased demand during the pandemic.
