In the first half of 2024, Portugal experienced a 4.1% decrease in imports of pigs for slaughter, dropping from 518,105 to 497,010 head compared to the same period in 2023. However, imports of pork and pork products rose by 4.3%, increasing from 94,481 tons in 2023 to 98,579 tons in 2024. The import value of pork also saw a 1.6% rise, reaching €276.632 million in 2024, up from €280.996 million in 2023, due to higher prices.
