Portugal: Imports of pigs for slaughter decreased by 4.1% in the first half of 2024

The entry of pigs for slaughter decreased by 4.1% in the first half of 2024 when compared to the same period in 2023, going from 518,105 heads last year to 497,010 heads this year. Imports of meat and its products increased by 4.3%, going from 94,481 tons in 2023 to 98,579 tons in 2024. Meat entries are broken down as follows: frozen meat - there was a 2.3% increase in entries, going from 12,208 tons in 2023 to 12,486 tons in 2024; fresh/chilled meat - there was a 6.6% increase in entries, going from 34,536 tons in 2023 to 36,821 tons in 2024; offal there was a reduction in input volumes, which were 711 tons in 2023 and 584 tons in 2024.
