Portugal has reported its first case of bluetongue serotype 3, with the virus detected among livestock on sheep farms in Torre de Coelheiros. This marks the latest addition to the list of European countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, France, and the UK, that have been affected by this serotype, which was first identified in Europe last fall. The disease, known for causing severe symptoms and high mortality in sheep, has led to temporary restrictions on animal movement in Portugal. The outbreaks continue to spread across European farms, with significant numbers reported in Switzerland, Sweden, and Denmark.
