In the first quarter of 2024, Portugal experienced a notable increase in pig exports, with a 19.5% rise compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 175,140 head. This increase includes a higher number of pigs sent for slaughter and finishing, resulting in a 15.4% increase in total weight. However, the country saw a decline in its pork exports, with a 21% decrease in total sales abroad. Specifically, frozen pork sales dropped by 25.5%, fresh and chilled pork exports decreased by 6.7%, and offal sales dropped by 29.4%. As a result, revenues from foreign sales fell by 6.7% in the first quarter of 2024.
