Potato prices continue to rise in Ukraine

In Ukraine, producers have raised potato prices again. The price of potatoes in the first week of this year increased to UAH 15-20 per kilogram ($0.39-0.52/kg), which is 11% higher compared to the end of 2023. According to the analysts of the EastFruit project, the main reason for this increase in prices is the reduction in the supply of potatoes on local markets. This is due to the fact that many Ukrainian producers, not having opportunities for long-term storage, have already completed sales in the first half of the season. It is also reported that wholesale companies face problems in finding the necessary volumes of quality potatoes from local farmers. Farmers attribute potato quality problems to adverse weather conditions during harvest, particularly prolonged rains that have affected both the appearance and storability of potatoes.
