In the 2021-2022 agricultural season, Mozambique experienced a significant 20% increase in potato production, reaching 57 thousand tons. This surge in production was highlighted by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, who had previously emphasized the need to boost potato production due to a rise in imports. The price of potatoes has since decreased in supply markets, including the Zimpeto Wholesale Market. During a visit to Massingir Citrus, a company engaged in the production of reno potato and soon-to-be citrus cultivation, Nyusi praised the enterprise for its contribution to job creation and high-quality production. The reno potato variety is crucial in Mozambique, with the country's production exceeding 100,000 tons per year, according to 2013 FAO data.
