Ukrainian breeders have developed new potato varieties that are better suited to handle climatic changes, including drought conditions, and are more resistant to pests and diseases. These new varieties are gaining popularity among Ukrainian farmers due to their lower cost compared to elite varieties from Europe. The director of the Institute of Potato Growing, Mykola Furdyga, noted a shift back towards Ukrainian selection in the past two years due to the price difference and the significant cost of seeds in the production process.
