On Thursday, January 12, 2023, in the local market, the prices for poultry products remained stable, with the price of white meat chicken ranging from 49 to 50 EGP per kilo, and the consumer price around 55 EGP per kilo. The price of broiler chicken was 58 EGP per kilo for farmers and 62 EGP per kilo for consumers. The increase in the price of white meat chicken in Egypt is due to increased global costs of animal feed and production materials, including a significant portion (70%) of these materials being imported, despite domestic production of only 30% of these needs. Egypt produces approximately 1.6 million tons of poultry annually, which is self-sufficient, and there are currently no imported poultry products in the markets, with the poultry industry being one of the largest employers, employing around three million people, and requiring an investment of approximately 100 billion EGP.
