The Crop Estimates Committee has provided preliminary estimates of South Africa's crop plantings for the 2021-2022 season, showing changes in various crops due to late plantings and excessive rains. The estimates show a decrease in the planting of commercial, white, and yellow maize, but an increase in sunflower seeds and soybeans. Wheat production is expected to be the largest since 2002, at 2,209 million tons. The final production estimates for all winter crops will be released on February 28, 2022.
