Price hike can generate a loss of R$ 180 million for the Brazilian cocoa industry

By Flávia Said Brasília, 04/08/2025 - The National Association of Cocoa Processing Industries (AIPC) estimates that the sector could lose at least US$ 36 million - about R$ 180 million - in 2025 if the 50% tariff imposed by the United States on cocoa derivatives is maintained. The tax, defined by an executive order from the White House last week, will come into effect next Wednesday and concerns the entity, which sees a risk to the functioning of the national industry. The U.S. market is the second main destination for Brazilian cocoa derivatives and accounts for 18% of exports in the segment. In 2024, shipments to the U.S. totaled US$ 72.7 million (R$ 363 million). In the first half of 2025, they have already reached US$ 64.8 million (R$ 325 million), more than 25% of the total exported in the period.
