Price of Beans Soars at the End of January with Slow Harvest and Reduced Supply

The price of beans registered a strong appreciation in the last week of January in virtually all regions monitored by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea/Esalq-USP). The highlight was the carioca beans of better quality and the black beans, which presented the largest monthly increases in several months. According to researchers at Cepea, the price advance was mainly driven by the restriction in the supply of the grain, the slowness in the harvest of the first crop, and the reduction in national production compared to 2025, especially in the southern region of the country. The Cepea survey shows that, at the close of January, the carioca beans had the highest positive variation in the last four months, reflecting the scarcity of the higher quality product in the market.
