Ukraine: Prices for garlic have doubled since last year

This year, garlic prices in Ukraine have almost doubled compared to last year, reaching 140-160 UAH/kg in the group. They were affected by a decrease in the supply of imported products and a shortage of domestic products. This is stated in the press service of the wholesale market of agricultural products "Shuvar" in Lviv. According to Tetyana Popovych, the head of the marketing department of the Shuvar market, the main reasons for the price increase are the decrease in acreage in China, which is the main supplier of this product, as well as difficulties with growing and storing domestic garlic. At the same time, the cost of planting garlic remained at the level of last year, which creates favorable conditions for producers. However, due to limited cultivation areas and difficulty in care, the supply of Ukrainian garlic remains low, which supports high prices.
