Eastern European countries, especially Ukraine, have experienced significant losses to their cherry and sweet cherry harvests due to April frosts, with estimates suggesting a loss of 45-55% of the cherry harvest and 35-50% of the cherry harvest in the northern regions. The majority of cherry production is concentrated in the southern regions, where losses were slightly lower. Ukraine's heavy reliance on imported sweet cherries, especially since the occupation of traditional growth regions, is expected to drive up prices. Additionally, the country is facing high strawberry prices at the start of the season, which are expected to drop before becoming more expensive in July, and a decrease in tomato prices due to an increase in greenhouse vegetable supply and low demand.
